Fisher Nets Game-Winner In Double Overtime To Lift Saint Peter's Men's Soccer Past Manhattan, 2-1

Box Score

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Jack Fisher (Leeds, England/Heckmondwike Grammar School) scored in the 105th minute to propel Saint Peter's past Manhattan 2-1 in double overtime of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's soccer contest on Wednesday.

After both teams scored in the first half, Ezequiel Cei (Elizabeth, N.J./St. Benedicts) served a corner kick on the ground to Jack Pounce (Little Chafont, England/Dr. Challoner Grammar) on the near post, who found Fisher in front of the far post and he drilled the shot into the left netting for the decisive goal at the 104:28 mark. It was Fisher's first goal in a Peacocks (6-4-1, 3-1-0 MAAC) uniform to help Saint Peter's improve to 5-0-1 at Jaroschak Field.

Rodrigo DaSilva (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) posted the Peacocks first goal of the afternoon off a Luke Fairlamb (Northampton, England/Unity College) assist while Jamie Cleland (Dunfermine, Scotland/Woodmill) recorded five saves in the winning effort.

Niels Kirch registered the Jaspers' (1-6-1, 1-2-0 MAAC) lone goal on the afternoon off a Troy Carrington helper while R.J. Noll turned away one shot in the loss.

Saint Peter's and Manhattan battled for almost two overtime periods, but the Peacocks scored midway through the second extra session to earn its nine win in the last 10 matchups against the Riverdale program.

Similar to the assist Fairlamb had against Rider one week ago in a 2-0 win against the Broncs, Fairlamb created the scoring chance by dribbling the ball to the left and passed the ball back to the right and found DaSilva for a 1-0 lead at the 37:23 mark. It was DaSilva's first collegiate tally and Fairlamb's seventh assist on the year. Fairlamb has registered a point in three of the four league games and nine of the 11 matches on the year.

The advantage did not last long after Manhattan knotted the score three minutes and one second later when Carrington found Kirch, who buried his shot into the left corner netting at 40:24.

Saint Peter's had the best scoring chance in the second half when Santiago Mateus (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) had broken through the defense and had a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper, but Noll made a diving stop to his left for his only stop on the afternoon in the 55th minute.

The Jaspers outshot the Peacocks 6-2 in the second half and Cleland made three saves in the stanza, but Manhattan could not found the back of the net. Timmy O'Driscoll represented the final scoring chance for the Jaspers, but his shot missed wide in the 95th minute before Fisher's heroics in the second overtime to give the Peacocks the victory.

Saint Peter's continues to be off to its best conference start since the 2010 season with its 3-1-0 record. The 2010 squad started MAAC play 3-0-1 on its way to winning the tournament title. The Peacocks are 5-0-1 in Jersey City this season, marking its best home record since registering a 5-1 mark in 2010.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Oct. 14 in an hOURglass Rivalry matchup at Monmouth. Match time is 7 p.m.
