Marist Topples Saint Peter's Women's Soccer

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Marist defeated Saint Peter's 6-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Sunday. The game was played at Caven Point in Jersey City.

Barbara Paiva (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) posted the Peacocks (2-9-0, 0-4-0 MAAC) lone goal of the afternoon. The freshman has five goals this season to become the first Saint Peter's women's soccer player with five tallies in a season since Courtney Sundstrom registered six goals in 2009.

Michelle Laz (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Technical) dished out the assist on Paiva's goal while Kelly Jamison (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) made six saves in the loss.

Erica Crosier powered the Red Foxes (3-7-1, 2-2-0 MAAC) with three goals and an assist while Camillie Bowen, Jessica Fanelli and Hope Quinonez also found the twine on the afternoon. Kristen Reilly dished out two assists and Ashley Houghton turned away five shots in the winning effort.

Marist scored three goals in each half en route to its third-straight win against Saint Peter's.

Crosier got the scoring starting when she took a cross from Reilly and headed in the ball for a 1-0 lead at the 2:38 mark. Crosier then helped the Red Foxes take a two-goal lead when she passed the ball into the middle to Bowen, who found the netting at 10:10. Quinonez increased the margin to 3-0 going into the break when she stole the ball from a defender and made a move to beat the goalkeeper at the 20:31 mark.

The Peacocks scored their goal at the 59:57 mark to trim the deficit to 3-1. Laz kicked a through ball ahead to Paiva, who then had a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper and found the back of the twine for her fifth goal of the season. The freshman duo rank 1-2 on the team's scoring list with Paiva leading the way with five goals for 10 points and Laz ranking second with three tallies and three assists for nine points.

Crosier answered for Marist with the next two goals to give the Red Foxes a 5-1 advantage. The sophomore took a pass from the right from Reilly for the second time on the day at 65:57 and then Paige Jacob passed the ball ahead to Crosier who was added by a deflection and found the top netting to complete her hat trick at 71:16. Fanelli capped the victory when she won a battle with a defender and knocked the ball into the right netting at 80:50.

Saint Peter's returns to action at Manhattan on Wednesday night. Match time is 7 p.m.
