Box Score Saint Peter's fell to Rider 3-0 this Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action.
Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) led the Peacocks (3-22, 1-12 MAAC) with a double-double: 13 kills, one assist, and 21 digs. Amanda Colombo (Wallington, N.J. / Wallington) just missed a double-double with nine kills, three assists, and 15 digs.
The two teams battled it out in the first set, frequently tying and unable to pull away from one another. A kill by Kenyale McGinnis (Irving, TX / Irving) from Kaitlyn Sittin (Brush Praire, Wash. / Prairie) brought the score to 7-7. Later on in the set, a kill by Lauren Behrens from Kaitlyn Sitton brought the scare to 25-25. The teams could not lead each other by for the two points for the remainder of the set. A service error by Amanda Colombo toward the end of the first set tied the teams at 40-40, however, two attack errors by Lauren Behrens and Kenyale Mcginnis pushed Rider to the lead for a final score of 42-40.
Rider (15-13, 10-4 MAAC) started the second set with a 6-0 run. The Peacocks pulled back into the game with a 4-0 run bringing the score to 9-10. Rider answered back with another 6-0 run with kills by Jennifer Borio, Kristin Fick, and Ryan Ackermann. The Broncs were able to maintain the lead for the rest of the set with a final score of 25-18.
The Broncs got an early lead again in the third set. The Peacocks tried to close the gap, but Rider went on a 8-1 run, bringing the score to 16-6. Kills by Greta Varvell and Kenyale Mcginnis, both from Kaitlyn Sitton, and an attack error by Hailey Riede of the Broncs brought the score to 17-21. Rider maintained the lead for the rest of the set with a final score of 25-18.
The Peacocks will host Fairfield University on November 7 at 1pm.
