Box Score Siena downed Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action on Sunday.
Saint Peter's (3-19, 1-11 MAAC) took the lead early in the first set with kills by Marlena Budna, Lauren Behrens, and Amanda Colombo, all from Kaitlyn Sitton. The Peacocks maintained the lead until an attack error by Lauren Behrens, tying the score at 6-6. Saint Peter's and Siena (13-8, 9-2 MAAC) battled in out during the middle of the set until the Saints pulled away with a final score of 25-19 in the first set.
The second set mirrored the first set with the two teams going back and forth. A kill Kaitlyn Sitton put the Peacocks in the lead at 6-5. The Peacocks maintained the lead until a attack error by Amanda Colombo, tying the set at 11-11. The teams scored back and forth. Just as Siena would pull away, the Peacocks would come back and tie the set with kills by Lauren Behrens, Greta Varvell, and Amanda Colombo. With the score at 23-23 toward the end of the set, a kill by Sam Pethokoukis of the Saints and a block error by Greta Varvell of the Peacocks put Siena in the lead for a final score of 25-23 in the second set.
Siena went on a 5-0 run in the beginning of the third set with a kill by Briana Flag and attack errors by Kaitlyn Sitton and Greta Varvell of Saint Peter's. The Peacocks pushed forward going on a 6-0 run and tying the game at 7-7 with a kill by Marlena Budna. The Saints quickly regained the lead with a 4-0 run. As Saint Peter's attempted to close the gap, the Saints went on another run, maintaining the lead for the remainder of the set with a final score of 25-16.
Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) paced the Peacocks with 12 kills, two assists, and five digs. Marlena Budna (Brooklyn, NY / Fort Hamilton) tallied nine kills, one assist, and five digs. Amanda Colombo (Wallington, N.J. / Wallington) added seven kills and 15 digs while Kaitlyn Sitton (Brush Praire, Wash. / Prairie) tallied three kills, 31 assists, and three digs.
The Peacocks head to Rider University to face the Broncs at 1pm on Saturday.
