Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canisius scored in the 48th minute to down Saint Peter's 1-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Saturday night.
Kelly Jamison (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) made nine saves for the Peacocks (2-14-0, 0-9-0 MAAC) and Genesis Castrellon (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) had a team-high five shots in the loss.
Ronja Gustafsson notched the tally for the Golden Griffins (5-11-2, 3-6-0 MAAC) and Kailee Defranks turned away six shots in the winning effort.
Canisius scored early in the second half and held on for a one-goal victory against Saint Peter's.
Gustafsson broke a scoreless standstill when she found the back of the net at the 47:57 mark for the only goal of the night
The Peacocks had several scoring chances on the night, but could not convert. Kaitlyn Lima (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) hit the post at 13:02 and Barbara Paiva (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) rocketed a shot off the post at the 85:10 mark. Paiva also had a shot stopped at 87:31 while Castrellon had the final scoring chance with 50 seconds left to go only missing high.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Wednesday in its season finale against Fairfield. Match time is 2 p.m. Prior to the match, the Peacocks will honor seniors Lima and Kirsten Mueller (East Northport, N.Y./Commack).
