Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ - Canisius defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action on Saturday. The Golden Griffs took the sets by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-19.
Lauren Behren just missed a double-double, pacing the Peacocks (3-15, 1-7 MAAC) with nine kills, two assists, and 14 digs. Kaitlyn Sitton tallied four kills, 24 assists, and seven digs while Greta Varvell added six kills, one assist, and seven digs.
Rachel Klein powered Canisius (6-14, 4-4 MAAC) with a double-double consisting of 10 digs and 12 kills. Kathleen Tyler tallied 16 kills and six digs. Julia Hrycyk added 38 assists and Donnett Hickson tallied 16 digs in the winning effort.
Canisius went on runs of 5-0 while Saint Peter's could not win back-to-back points in the first set and the Golden Griffs took the first set by score of 25-17.
In the second set, the Peacocks won the first two points of the set to jump out to a 0-2 lead thanks to a kill by Amanda Colombo and an attack error by Katelyn Tyler. Canisius then went on a 6-4 lead. Saint Peter's then tied with the Golden Griffs and went up 9-7 with a kill by Lauren Behrens and a service ace by Donnett Hickins, but Canisius regained the lead for the rest of the set with an ending score of 24-23.
The Peacocks lagged behind in the beginning of the third set until a service ace by Donnett Hickins, bringing the score to 2-2. After Canisius went up, Saint Peter's quickly gained the lead going on a 4-0 run. The Golden Griffs then went on a 4-0 run and kept the lead until the end of the third set with a score of 25-19.
The Peacocks host Niagara on Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m.
