Box Score WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth downed Saint Peter's 3-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's soccer action on Wednesday.
Ezequiel Cei (Elizabeth, N.J./Saint Benedicts) recorded his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the first half. The sophomore has registered a point in seven of the 12 matches this season. Jamie Cleland (Dunfermine, Scotland/Woodmill) made one save for the Peacocks (6-5-1, 3-2-0 MAAC) in the loss.
David Acuna Camacho powered the Hawks (9-3-2, 5-0-1 MAAC) with a goal and an assist while Anderson Asiedu and John Egan also found the twine. Justin Klenofsky made save in the winning effort.
Monmouth scored the first two goals of the night and then added a tally in the second half to earn the win in the hOURglass Rivalry matchup on ESPN3.
The Hawks took the early lead when Camacho found the back of the twine at the 8:20 mark for a 1-0 lead. Camacho then had a hand in the second tally of the night when he fed Egan at 25:24 for a two-goal margin.
With time winding down in the first half, Cei found the back of the net after a free kick was blocked and the sophomore was there to knock in the rebound at 42:16 to trim the margin to 2-1 going into the break.
Asiedu then sealed the win for Monmouth early in the second half after he won the ball and shot 18-yards out inside the left post at 48:03 for a 3-1 advantage.
After Cei cut the margin to one goal, the Jersey City team did not have another shot until Asiedu restored a two-goal lead for the Hawks. In the second half, the Peacocks had seven shots on goal, but had six blocked by the Monmouth defense and one stop by the netminder.
Saint Peter's returns to action at Niagara on Saturday. Match time is 2 p.m.
