Box Score NIAGARA, N.Y – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to conference opponent Niagara on Sunday.
Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Trujillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) paced the Peacocks (2-9, 0-3 MAAC) with 19 kills while Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) recorded 12 kills and a team-high 18 digs in the loss.
Nicole Matheis led the way for the Purple Eagles (5-10, 1-3 MAAC) with 13 kills while Amanda Sedore and Rayenne Hale tallied 11 kills each.
Niagara defeated Saint Peter's in four sets to earn its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) victory of the season.
Tied at 15 in the first set, the Purple Eagles used a 7-2 run to open up a 22-17 lead. Saint Peter's answered with three straight scores to get within two scores, but Niagara held on for the 25-21 set victory.
In the second set, both teams traded points in the early with Saint Peter's in front 13-12. Niagara used a 10-1 spurt to take a commanding 23-13 advantage, going on to win the set 25-15.
Ahead 8-5 in the third set, the Peacocks used an 11-2 run to avoid a sweep and take the third set, 25-17.
In the fourth set, Saint Peter's built an 18-12 lead. Niagara mounted a comeback, going on a 13-1 run to take the decisive set, 25-19.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Oct. 4, when the team begins a five-match home stand against Iona. Opening serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
