Rider Downs Saint Peter's Women's Volleyball In MAAC Opener

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Rider defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action on Wednesday night.

Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Trujillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) paced the Peacocks (2-7, 0-1 MAAC) with nine kills while Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) each added seven kills on the night. Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) posted a game-high 27 assists in the loss.

Ryan Ackermann and Jaclyn Webber each recorded double-digit kill totals to fuel the Broncs (4-5, 1-0 MAAC) while Ashlee Amatulli tallied 19 assists in the winning effort.

Rider defeated Saint Peter's in all three sets to take the contest and earn the victory in the opening conference match for both teams.

In the opening set, with the game knotted at 12, the Broncs used a 7-2 run to take a 19-14 lead. Saint Peter's cut the deficit with two straight scores, but Rider did not relinquish its lead to the win the first set, 25-20.

Second set, Rider jumped out to a 19-9 advantage. The Peacocks trimmed the deficit with three consecutive points, but Rider maintained its offensive attack to win the set, 25-16.

Rider won the third set, 25-16, to earn the three-set decision. The Broncs grabbed an early 16-9 advantage with Saint Peter's unable to recover from the deficit.

The Peacocks return to action on Sept. 27, when the team makes its annual trip to upstate New York for conference matchups against Canisius (Sept. 27) and Niagara (Sept. 28).
