Delaware Edges Saint Peter's Men's Soccer, 2-1

Box Score

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware scored the first two goals of the match to edge Saint Peter's 2-1 in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday.

Ezequiel Cei (Elizabeth, N.J./St. Benedict's), a local product from Elizabeth, N.J., notched his first collegiate goal for the Peacocks (1-4-0) off an assist from Luke Fairlamb (Northampton, England/Unity College) while David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) had three saves in the loss.

Guillermo Delgado and Joe Dipre recorded the two markers for the Blue Hens (6-0-0) and Borja Barbero turned away for shots in the winning effort.

Delaware scored two goals in the first 46 minutes of the match and then held on after Saint Peter's scored midway through the second half to earn its third-straight win in the series to even the all-time series with the Peacocks at three games apiece.

Delgado got the scoring started when he found the back of the net unassisted at 6:38 for a quick 1-0 edge.

Dipre registered the eventual game-winner when he scored from 15-yards out off a feeder from Nick DiRenzo at 45:53 for a 2-0 advantage.

Cei notched his first career goal after finding the bottom left netting off a pass from Fairlamb at 70:12 to trim the margin to 2-1.

After Cei's tally the Peacocks recorded two more chances to even the score, but could not convert. Reece Lambert (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart) had his scoring chance thwarted by Barbero at 74:21 and Jack Pounce (Little Chafont, England/Dr. Challoner's Grammar) missed high at 81:56 for Saint Peter's final scoring chance of the day.

It marks the second-straight game a Peacocks' player posted his first collegiate goal. Fairlamb found the twine for the first time in his career in a 3-1 loss against Villanova on Thursday before Cei recorded the milestone on Sunday.

Saint Peter's, who has played to a one-goal difference in four of its first five games, concludes its six-game road trip to start the season at Bryant on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m.
