Women's Volleyball Defeats Lafayette On The Final Day Of The Crosstown Tournament

EASTON, Pa. – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team concluded its play at the Crosstown Tournament on Saturday with a 3-1 set victory over Lafayette.

Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) paced the Peacocks with 16 kills in the contest. Amanda Colombo (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) and Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) each recorded double-digit kill totals in the victory.

Elizabeth Walsh paced the Leopards with 16 kills. Jet Manzi finished with 13 kills and 13 digs in the losing effort.

In the opening set, Saint Peter's (2-6) built a 21-13 lead. Lafayette (3-8) did not go away, using a 10-1 run to take a 23-22 edge. Consecutive scores from the Peacocks gave them back the lead. Following a timeout, the Leopards knotted the game at 24 after a kill from Walsh. Back-to-back kills from Behrens secured the first set victory for the Peacocks.

Saint Peter's offensive surge carried over into the second set, opening a 23-11 advantage. Lafayette made a late run, scoring four straight points to trim the deficit, but the Peacocks held on for the 25-15 set victory.

Third set, the two teams exchanged points throughout, with Saint Peter's out in front 22-21. The Leopards used three straight scores to take a 24-22 lead and avoid the sweep with a 25-23 set win.

In the fourth game, Saint Peter's opened up a 9-4 lead behind five kills from Behrens. Both teams exchanged scoring runs, but the Peacocks were holding on to a 19-14 edge. Lafayette got within two of the tying the set, but the Peacocks did not give up the lead, prevailing to the 25-21 set victory.

Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) recorded 39 assists in the match. Kayla Howell (Monrovia, Calif./Monrovia) tallied a team-high 15 digs. Lexandra Wirth (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) finished with seven kills in the winning effort. 

With the victory, the Peacocks snap a four-game losing streak to Lafayette. This is the first time Saint Peter's has won back-to-back contests since 2010.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Sept. 17, when the team opens up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play with an Hourglass Rivalry matchup against Rider. Opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
