Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Lafayette defeated Saint Peter's 4-0 in the women's soccer season opener for both teams on Tuesday night.
Taylor McLean (Oakville, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) made four saves in 69 minutes of action for the Peacocks (0-1-0) while Lauren Solene (Fall City, Wash./Mounty Si) turned away two shots in the final 21 minutes in between the pipes. The duo both made their collegiate debut in the contest.
McLean was one of seven newcomers to make their collegiate debut in the starting lineup, joining Alexandria Couto (Wall, N.J./Wall), Olivia Nazzaro (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), Kristina Neri (San Jose, Calif./Santa Teresa), Kirsten Mueller (East Northport, N.Y./Commack [Harcum College]), Reighan Pflug (Guelph, Ontario/Bishop MacDonell Catholic), and Carlee Gonzalez (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield). Alyssa Rosania (Butler, N.J./Butler), Jennifer Ladouceur (Westminster, Colo./Mountain Range) and Naima Gustafsson (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) saw their first collegiate action off the bench.
Alyssa Finelli fueled the Leopards (1-0-0) with two goals while Nicole Lee and Kaelin King also found the twine. Danielle Sedillo made one save in the winning effort.
Lafayette scored twice in each half to open the season with a win under the lights of Caven Point in the second meeting between the two teams in a season opener. The Peacocks defeated the Leopards 3-1 in the 1994 season opener.
Finelli got the scoring started when she took a cross from Alex Reisinger at the 25:48 mark for the game's first goal. Lee scored 119 seconds later unassisted to give Lafayette a 2-0 lead at the break.
King then found the twine at 68:17 unassisted and then Finelli, who started the scoring, capped the evening with an unassisted tally at 75:33 for a 4-0 victory.
Neri and Greta Vogel (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills [Scottsdale Community College]) notched the two shots in the match for Saint Peter's. Neri had her first collegiate shot attached stopped by Sedillo in the fourth minute while Vogel missed wide in the 84th minute.
Saint Peter's returns to action when the squad starts a six-game road trip at Wagner on Friday night. Match time is 7 p.m.
