JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second time in his career, senior Isaiah Harris (Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception) has advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after finishing ninth in the high jump at the NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round on Saturday.
After starting the day by passing on the height of 2.00m, the senior made the 2.05m and 2.10m heights on his first attempts. Harris then missed on his first try at 2.14m, but then converted the jump on his second attempt. Ranked 44th of 48 competitors coming into the event, he was one of 13 participants to make the 2.14m mark and finished ninth after successfully making the jump in his second try while four other jumpers made it on their third attempt to finish behind Harris.
Since the senior placed in the Top-12, he moves onto the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 11-14. The high jump will start at 3:20 p.m. (6:20 p.m. EST) on June 13 on the campus of the University of Oregon.
It will be the second time Harris has advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after competing in the triple jump in the 2012 championships to become the first-ever Saint Peter's athlete to reach the highest stage in track & field. The senior will also be participating in the NCAA Championships for the second time this season after finishing 14th in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships and became the first-ever Peacock to earn All-America status with his second-team recognition in March. He also was making his third appearance in the NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round.
Harris competed in the triple jump on Friday at the NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round and finished 16th with a leap of 15.10m. The senior posted the mark on his fourth attempt for his best mark of the season.
The senior is finishing his career on a high note after sweeping the jumps (long, triple and high) at both the indoor and outdoor MAAC Championships to be named the Most Outstanding Field Performer at both championships. Harris also became the first Saint Peter's track and field athlete to participate in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2014.
Harris is an 18-time MAAC champion in his career and a three-time MAAC Most Outstanding Performer.
