JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior Isaiah Harris (Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception) finished 16th in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round on Friday night.
Harris, who won the triple jump at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a leap of 15.38m, just missed that mark with a 15.37m lunge in his first attempt on Friday. After missing on his second jump, the senior posted his best mark of the season and his best jump of the evening with a 15.40m on his third attempt. Harris leaped 15.10m on his fourth attempt and missed in both the fifth and sixth rounds to finish 16th thanks to his third-attempt mark.
Ranked 27th out of the 48 competitors going into the East Preliminary Round, Harris missed the cut to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships by four spots and 0.17m.
Harris, who is making his third appearance in the NCAA Championships East Preliminary Round, will wrap up the event on Saturday in the high jump. The senior reached the NCAA Championship East Preliminary Round after winning the high jump at the MAAC Championships with a height of 2.09m and ranks 44th out of the 48 participants. The event starts at 5 p.m. and fan can view the live statistics for the event HERE. The Top-12 finishes advance to the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The senior is finishing his career on a high note after sweeping the jumps (long, triple and high) at both the indoor and outdoor MAAC Championships to be named the Most Outstanding Field Performer at both championships. Harris also became the first Saint Peter's track and field athlete to participate in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2014.
Harris is an 18-time MAAC champion in his career and a three-time MAAC Most Outstanding Performer.
