Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist defeated Saint Peter's 9-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball action on Sunday.
Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) knocked in both runs for the Peacocks (11-37, 6-14 MAAC) on a two-run homer in the ninth. Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) posted a hit and a run scored and Kyle Grimes (Iselin, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Memorial) registered two hits in the loss.
Jordan Eich tossed seven-shutout innings with seven strikeouts and two hits for the Red Foxes (16-30, 9-12 MAAC) while Matt Pagano paced the offense with three hits, two RBIs and a run scored in the winning effort.
Marist scored three times in the first four innings and then put the game away with six runs in the sixth to complete the three-game sweep against Saint Peter's for the second-straight season.
The Red Foxes took a 1-0 lead after the first inning when Pat Welch plated a run on a fielder's choice.
Marist scored a run in each of the third and fourth innings to increase the advantage to 3-0. Steve Laurino knocked in a run in the third on an RBI single up the middle and Matt Belitz added a run in the fourth on a bunt for a three-run lead.
Six runs in the sixth extended the lead to 9-0. Graham McIntire started the rally with an RBI double down the left field line. Pagano then hit a two-run double to left field and then he scored on a passed ball. Jake Berry hit a run-scoring single back up the box and Laurino capped the six-run inning with an RBI ground out.
In the ninth, Kristoffersen singled down the left field line and came around to score on Moore's team-leading fifth homer of the year to set the final score at 9-2.
John Leiter (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) took the loss for Saint Peter's.
The Peacocks return to action on Tuesday at St. John's. Game time is 6 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN3.
