Box Score 2 POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball doubleheader on Saturday. The Red Foxes took the opener 13-6 and then won the second game 5-2 in a rain shortened five-inning contest. The tarps went out on the field with one out and one on in the fifth and after a 90-minute delay of heavy rain and lightening the game was called.
Zach Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) paced the Peacocks (11-35, 6-13 MAAC) with five hits, two runs and an RBI while Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) added three RBIs and a base hit and Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) posted two hits and three runs scored on the afternoon.
Zachary Passerelle fueled the Red Foxes (15-30, 8-12 MAAC) with two hits, four RBIs and three runs scored while Graham McIntire posted four hits, four runs scored and four RBIs.
In the nightcap, Saint Peter's jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Marist scored the final five runs to come away with a 5-2 five-inning victory.
After the Peacocks scored twice in the top of the second, the Red Foxes crossed three runs across the plate to take a 3-2 lead.
McIntire plated the first run on an RBI single to left center before Joey Aiola doubled home McIntire and Aiola scored on Matt Pagano's sacrifice fly to left.
Marist added two runs in the fourth after McIntire scored on a wild pitch and Aiola scored on a Belitz RBI groundout for a 5-2 advantage. The seven-inning game was halted in the bottom of the fifth due to rain and was called after a 90-minute delay.
Saint Peter's grabbed a 2-0 lead after scoring twice in the second. Jim Smith (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) doubled to right and Henriquez singled to right center to put runners at the corners before Smith scored on Vinny Maietta's (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Mary's) run-scoring single to left. Henriquez scored on Sean Henry's (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) sacrifice bunt for a two-run lead, but the Red Foxes scored the final five runs to complete the twinbill sweep.
Mark Wilson (Clark, N.J.Arthur L. Johnson) took the loss for the Peacocks.
Marist jumped scored 10 runs in the first two innings and never looked back for a 13-6 win in the opener.
Passerelle smacked a two-run single in first to give the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead.
An eight-run second increased the Marist lead to 10-0. Passerelle started the offensive outburst with a bases loaded walk before McIntire hit a bases clearing three-run double to left center. Aiola followed with an RBI single through the left side and he scored on Pagano's two-run triple before Nick McQuail capped the eight-run inning with an RBI single to center.
The Red Foxes added two runs in the sixth when Passerelle scored on an error and Ben Moeller plated a run on a groundout to increase the margin to 12-0.
Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard with two runs in the seventh. Rawson started the rally with a single to left before Ariel Ramirez (San Domingo, Dominican Republic/Babeque) singled to right and Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases with two outs. Moore plated Rawson and Ramirez on a two-run single o right center.
The Peacocks added three runs in the eighth to trim the margin to 12-5. Henriquez walked, Maietta reached on a fielder's choice and Rawson singled before Henriquez touched home on Ramirez's sacrifice fly. After Kristoffersen was hit with a pitch, Nick Cardamone (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) plated Maietta on an RBI infield single and Moore coaxed a bases loaded walked to score Rawson.
Passerelle answered for Marist with a solo homer in the eighth to give the hosts a 13-5 lead.
Saint Peter's added a run in the ninth to set the final score at 13-6. Henriquez singled to left and moved to second when Maietta walked before the junior came around to score on Rawson's RBI single to left field.
Zach Hopf (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) took the loss for the Peacocks.
The two teams complete the three-game series in Poughkeepsie on Sunday. First pitch is 12 p.m.
