Seton Hall Upends Saint Peter's Baseball

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Seton Hall defeated Saint Peter's 15-0 in seven innings of a non-conference baseball action on Tuesday. The game was moved up a day due to the impending weather scheduled to hit the area on Wednesday.

Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township), Kyle Grimes (Iselin, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Memorial), Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph), Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) and Vinny Maietta (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Mary's) each had a hit for the Peacocks (10-31) in the loss.

D.J. Ruhlman paced the Pirates (32-9) with two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs. Zach Weigel added three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs while Kyle Grimm added a hit and two RBIs in the winning effort.

Seton Hall scored in five of the seven innings to take the rubber game of the season series with Saint Peter's that began in March. The Peacocks gave the Pirates their only home loss to date with a 9-8 decision on Mar. 18 before Seton Hall evened the series with an 11-3 win eight days later.

Tyler Boyd got the scoring started with an RBI double in the first for Seton Hall.

The Pirates added two runs in the second on a Chris Chiaradio RBI double and then Chiaradio touched home on an error for a 3-0 lead.

Three runs came across for Seton Hall in the fourth on RBI singles by Alex Falconi and Weigel before Ruhlman knocked in a run on a fielder's choice to increase the margin to six runs.

The Pirates added four runs in the sixth to take a 10-0 advantage. Derek Jenkins started the rally with a run-scoring single to right field before Grimm plated two runs with a single to left field and Chris Selden capped the run with a RBI single to center.

Seton Hall then scored five runs in the seventh to seal the victory. Weigel hit an RBI single before Ruhlman knocked in two runs with a single to left field. Pinch hitter John Beaubien reached on an error to score a run and Matt Fortin hit a pinch-hit RBI single for a 15-0 lead.

The Peacocks had six runners on base on the afternoon, but could not get a runner in scoring position. Grimes reached base twice thanks to a hit and a walk.

Adam Purcilly (Troy, Mich./Avondale) took the loss for Saint Peter's.

The Peacocks begin a three-game series at home against Iona this weekend. First pitch of a doubleheader on Saturday begins at 12 p.m.
