Florida International Downs Saint Peter's Baseball

MIAMI, FLA. – Florida International defeated Saint Peter's 15-0 in non-conference baseball action on Sunday.

Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township), Kyle Grimes (Iselin, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Memorial), Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph), Michael Wulff (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Sean Henry (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) each had a hit for the Peacocks (10-30) in the loss. 

Julius Gaines powered the Panthers (31-12) with four hits, four RBIs and a run scored. Josh Anderson added two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored while Zach Sweety, L.K. Thompson and J.C. Escarra each knocked in two runs in the winning effort.

Florida International scored in six of the eight innings to take the advantage and never look back to complete the four-game sweep against Saint Peter's.

The Panthers got the scoring started with three runs in the first. Sweety hit an RBI single up the middle before Gunnar McNeill plated a run on a single up the middle and Gaines capped the three-run inning with an RBI double down the right field line.

Florida International increased its lead to 7-0 after scoring four times in the third. Gaines hit a two-run double to center and Escarra recorded a two-run single to left in the stanza.

Anderson homered to left field and Gaines knocked in his fourth in in four innings to increase the Panthers lead to 9-0 after the fourth.

Anderson then increased the margin to 12-0 thanks to his second homer in as many innings with a three-run homer.

Sweety hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Thompson capped the 15-0 victory for Florida International with a two-run homer in the eighth.

The Peacocks only got a runner to second once on the afternoon. In the seventh with two outs, Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) walked and Wulff singled through the left side to put a runner in scoring position for the first time in the game, but a ground out ended the threat.

Kristoffersen led off the first with a single and Grimes opened the fourth with a base hit, but the Panthers got the next three out to end the innings.

John Leiter (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) took the loss for the Peacocks.

Saint Peter's returns to action when it starts a four-game homestand on Wednesday against Seton Hall. Game time is 3 p.m.
