Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's softball team was swept in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader against Fairfield on Saturday. The Stags took the opening contest, 7-3 and the second contest, 11-0.
Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) paced the Peacocks on the afternoon with two hits and two RBI. Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis./William Bay) added two hits and one RBI while Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) chipped in with two runs scored.
Fairfield took a 1-0 edge in the third inning, drawing a bases loaded walk to score Nicole Capra. The Stags added another run in the fourth, fueled by a RBI double to left from Gianna Kinhofer.
The Peacocks countered in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run off a RBI single through the left side from Storms to score Olmedo from third.
Fairfield responded with a three-run fifth inning, starting with a RBI double from Tori Reed to advance two runners. Later in the inning, a throwing error by the Peacocks allowed the Stags to score another run and take a 5-1 lead.
Saint Peter's answered with two runs in the bottom of fifth, powered by a two-run blast to left field by Colon to keep the Peacocks in the game.
The Stags added two runs in the top the seventh, powered by a base hit from Kristen Felicia to take the first game, 7-3.
Fairfield continued its offensive outburst in the second game, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Stags added another run in the second, following a homerun to left center from Kinhofer to give Fairfield a 3-0 advantage.
The Stags scored four more times in the third, sparked by a RBI base hit from Lauren Liseth to score one run. Later in the inning, Kinhofer hit her second homerun of the game, to give Fairfield a 7-0 lead. A four-run fifth inning from Fairfield powered the team to an 11-0 victory and the two-game sweep of Saint Peter's.
Rebecca Trott pitched well for the Stags, recording a no-hitter and striking out nine batters.
With the losses, Saint Peter's falls to 10-36 overall and 4-10 in conference action. Fairfield improves to 19-17 and a league best 14-2 conference record.
Saint Peter's returns to action tomorrow for a twinbill against Manhattan on Senior Day. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
