Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Nicole Olmedo's (Chino, Calif./Chino) walk-off homerun on Sunday propelled the Saint Peter's softball team to a 1-0 victory over Canisius. The two teams split the afternoon tilt, as Cansius took the second game 3-0.
Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) pitched well in the opening game, throwing a complete game shutout.
Jen Consaul pitched well for Canisius, yielding only three hits to the Peacocks in the entire contest.
Saint Peter's did an excellent job in the field, stranding five Canisius batters on base in the contest and converted three double plays.
Following a 1-2-3 inning defensively for Saint Peter's in the top of the seventh, Olmedo led off the inning for the Peacocks, crushing her first collegiate walk-off homerun to left field to secure the 1-0 victory.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Canisius took a 1-0 edge in the first inning following a RBI base hit from Robin Kennery.
The Golden Griffs scored two more times in the seventh inning, fueled by a RBI single from Alexis Roman and a RBI double from Kennery to allow Canisius to seal a 3-0 victory.
After today, softball stands at 7-27 overall and 3-5 in conference play. Canisius moves to 11-23 and 2-6 in MAAC play.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Apr. 16, when the team plays host to Lafayette in a non-conference clash.
