Seton Hall Downs Saint Peter's Baseball

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Seton Hall defeated Saint Peter's 11-3 in non-conference baseball action on Thursday.

Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) paced the Peacocks (5-16) with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBIs while Jim Smith (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) added a hit and an RBI in the loss.

Tyler Boyd paced the Pirates (16-4) with a hit, two runs scored and three RBIs while Mikael-Ali Mogues added three hits and two RBIs and John Beaubien had a hit and two RBIs in the winning effort.

Playing for the second time in eight days, Seton Hall three times in each of the first two innings en route to an 11-3 victory and avenge a 9-8 loss to Saint Peter's on Mar. 19.

The Pirates scored three runs in the first thanks to an RBI single by Chris Selden, a run-scoring triple by Boyd and an RBI single to left by Mogues.

Seton Hall added three more runs in the second to increase the margin to 6-0. After Derek Jenkins started the rally by scoring on a wild pitch, Sal Annunziata plated a run on a single and Mogues added a run-scoring single to right.

Boyd brought home a run in the fourth on a groundout to give the Pirates a 7-0 advantage.

Seton Hall added two runs in the sixth on an error and a Boyd sacrifice fly before Beaubien hit a two-run double in the seventh for an 11-0 margin.

The Peacocks got on the scoreboard in the eighth with three runs. With two outs, Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) doubled to center and Kyle Grimes (Iselin, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Memorial) was hit with a pitch before Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) reached on an infield single to load the bases. Hugg doubled to left to plate Kristoffersen and Grimes before Smith reached on an infield single to bring home Moore with the third run and set the final score at 11-3.

Kevin Croucher (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) took the loss for Saint Peter's.

The Peacocks return to action on Saturday when they make their 2014 Jaroschak Field debut against Fairfield. The two teams will play a twinbill that consists of a nine-inning game and a seven-inning affair. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
