Box Score 2 BALTIMORE, Md. – The Saint Peter's softball team dropped its final two games against Sacred Heart (5-4) and UMBC (10-0) at the UMBC Spring Classic on Sunday.
In the morning contest against Sacred Heart, the Pioneers got on the board first in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Jade Bowins drew a walk, allowing for Kate Nadler to score and giving Sacred Heart a 1-0 advantage. Saint Peter's tied things up in the fourth inning, following a homerun by Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino).
The Pioneers regained the lead in the fifth, following a three-run blast from Nadler to give Sacred Heart a 4-1 lead. Saint Peter's did not go away, countering in the sixth inning. Olmedo began the charge with her second homerun of the morning to cut the deficit to two. Following a Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Immaculate Conception) walk, Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis./William Bay) smacked out a homerun to knot the game at four.
With the score tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, Annie Dreher knocked out a walk-off homerun to secure the 5-4 victory.
In the afternoon slate against UMBC, following a three-run third inning, the Retrievers pulled away with seven runs in the fourth inning to earn the 10-0 win.
With the losses, Saint Peter's falls to 4-16 overall this season.
The Peacocks return to action Mar. 26, for a cross-town clash against Seton Hall. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
