Box Score 2 BALTIMORE, Md. – The Saint Peter's softball team earned a 4-2 victory over UMBC at the UMBC Spring Classic on Saturday.
The Peacocks split the afternoon, after suffering a 9-1 loss to Bowling Green in the morning contest.
In the afternoon game against UMBC, Saint Peter's got on the board in the second inning. Following a double to left center by Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J /John F. Kennedy Memorial), Taylor Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) smacked out a two-run homerun to give the Peacocks a 2-0 lead.
The Peacocks scored two more runs in the third inning, beginning with a RBI-double by Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado to advance Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) around the bases to expand Saint Peter's lead. Later in the inning, Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) hit a RBI-double down the left field line to bring Harrison home and give Saint Peter's a 4-0 advantage.
UMBC made things interesting in the fourth inning, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning following a RBI and eventual run scored by Bridget O'Malley to only trail, 4-2. UMBC did not score again, as Saint Peter's held on for the 4-2 victory.
Carlucci performed well on the mound, limiting UMBC to just three hits on seven innings of action. She also finished with three strikeouts.
Following today's action, Saint Peter's stands at 4-14 overall this season.
The squad resumes action on Mar. 23, when the team concludes play at the UMBC Spring Classic with games against Mt. Saint Mary's and Sacred Heart.
