Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Siena defeated Saint Peter's 76-54 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's basketball action on Saturday.
Kaydine Bent (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) recorded a team-best 18 points and 11 rebounds. Aziza May (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) and Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) each chipped in with nine points.
Kanika Cummings paced the Saints with a game-high 19 points. Clara Sole Anglada finished with 17 points and four rebounds.
A strong run by Siena that spanned into the second half gave the Saints a lead that they did not relinquish.
Saint Peter's kicked off the game with an 11-4 run, capped off by a jumper from Smith and a free throw from Bridget Whitfield (San Diego, Calif./La Costa Canyon). Siena countered with a 10-2 run, fueled by Cummings, to take a 14-13 lead.
The Peacocks regained the lead with a pair of free throws from Bent. Siena responded with four consecutive free throws to take an 18-15 advantage. Next Peacock possession, May found Neechelle Ingram (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) for an easy layup to cut the deficit to one.
Siena responded with a 3-pointer from Sole Anglada to take a 21-19 lead. The Peacocks answered with a jumper from Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt/Modern Narmer Language School) to cut the lead. The Saints drilled another 3-ball to extend its lead. May countered with five consecutive points to knot the game at 24 with 4:02 left in the first half.
The Saints did not look back at that point, as Siena went on a 28-2 run that spilled into the second half of the game to give the Saints a 52-26 lead.
Saint Peter's was able to cut the deficit as small as 18, but Siena kept knocking down field goals to maintain its lead.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 3-20 overall and 3-12 in MAAC play. Siena improves to 7-16 overall and earns its second victory in conference play.
Ingram and Mostafa combined for a total of seven blocks in the loss.
The Peacocks return to action Feb. 11, when they welcome Marist to the Yanitelli Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
