Manhattan Downs Women's Basketball, 58-31

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan defeated Saint Peter's 58-31in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's basketball action on Thursday.

Kaydine Bent (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) paced the Peacocks (3-19, 2-11 MAAC) with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Monica Roeder fueled the Jaspers (6-16, 5-8 MAAC) with 12 points. Ashley Stec added 11 points and Allison Skrec chipped in 10 points in the winning effort.

Manhattan jumped out to the quick advantage and never looked back to take the first meeting against Saint Peter's in 2013-14.

The Jaspers started the game with a 7-0 run thanks to a Roeder 3-pointer at 19:36 and consecutive layups by Stec at 18:37 and 18:01. Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) got the Peacocks on the scoreboard with a jumper at 16:16.

After Smith's second basket of the night, Manhattan rolled of the next 14 points to take a 25-4 advantage with 8:27 left in the stanza. Shayne Ericksen powered the run with six points.

Saint Peter's then scored eight unanswered points to trim the margin to 25-12 with 5:47 on the clock. Bent scored in the lane at 8:012 before Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Eygpt/Modern Narmer Language) nailed a trey at 7:12 and Teresa Corchado (Willingboro, N.J./Camden Catholic) hit one of her own at 5:47.

Powered by four points from Skrec, the Jaspers scored the final eight points of the first half to go into the locker room with a 33-12 advantage.

In the second half, Saint Peter's and Manhattan battled evenly for most of the stanza. The Peacocks scored six-straight points after layups from Smith at 12:41, Mostafa at 11:27 and Aziza May (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush)  at 10:53 to trim the margin to 43-28, but could get no closer the rest of the way.

Mostafa added seven points while Smith chipped in six points in the loss.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Saturday at home against Siena. Game time is 2 p.m.
