Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Fairfield defeated Saint Peter's, 71-39, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Kylie Garrett (Mt. Orab, Ohio/Western Brown) notched a career-high and team-best 13 points for the Peacocks. Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School), Teresa Corchado (Willingboro, N.J./Camden Catholic) and Neechelle Ingram (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) each chipped in six points.
Katie Cizynski paced the Stags with 22 points. Brittany Obi-Tabot and Alexys Vazquez each scored 11 points in the victory.
Fairfield jumped out to a quick advantage and never looked back to complete the season sweep against Saint Peter's in 2013-14.
After exchanging points to knot the game at 7-7, Fairfield finished the first half on a 33-13 run, fueled by 15 first half points from Cizynski to take a 40-20 advantage into halftime.
Saint Peter's opened up the second half scoring four consecutive points to trim the lead, 40-24. Fairfield countered with a 15-5 run to take a 55-29 advantage. Following a basket from Corchado, the Stags nailed a 3-pointer from Kristin Schazlein to take a 58-31 lead. Fairfield did not look back, finishing the game on a 13-8 run to win the contest, 71-39.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 3-22 overall and 2-14 in conference play. Fairfield improves to 17-8 overall and 12-4 in conference play.
Saint Peter's returns to action Feb. 20 when they welcome Canisius to the Yanitelli Center for MAAC play. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN3 and is set to tip-off at 6 p.m.
