Marist Defeats Women's Basketball, 64-49

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Marist defeated Saint Peter's, 64-49, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action Tuesday night.

Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) registered a team-best 15 points. Aziza May (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) recorded 14 points, along with four rebounds and four assists.

Tori Jarosz finished with a game-high 20 points for Marist. Casey Dunlin registered 10 points in the win.

Marist opened up the first half with a 12-5 run. The Peacocks countered with three straight points to cut the deficit to three. The Red Foxes responded with consecutive baskets to take a 16-9 advantage.

Following a layup from Neechelle Ingram (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), Marist scored six straight points to extend its lead. A jumper from Smith trimmed the Marist lead. The Red Foxes finished the first half on a 13-2 run to take a 37-15 lead into the locker room.

Marist opened up the second half with back-to-back layups to take a 41-15 lead. Saint Peter's countered with six straight points to only trail, 41-21. Following a field goal from the Red Foxes, the Peacocks responded with four straight points.

Following a Saint Peter's foul, Katherine Fogarty knocked down a pair from the line to give Marist a 45-26 lead. Following a field goal from Smith, Marist went on an 11-4 run to take a 56-32 advantage. The Peacocks responded with a pair of 3-pointers to cut the deficit. Following a Marist field goal, Kylie Garrett (Mt. Orab, Ohio/Western Brown) knocked down a 3-ball to only trail, 58-41.

Following a pair of free throws from Marist, Garrett hit another 3-pointer to trim the Marist lead. Each team exchanged baskets, with Marist out in front, 62-46. Ultimately, Marist went on to win, 64-49.

Garrett chipped in a career-high 12 points for the Peacocks. Ingram finished with a team-best five rebounds. 

With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 3-21 overall and 2-13 in conference play. Marist improves to 19-6 overall and 13-2 in conference action.

Saint Peter's returns to action Feb. 15, when they travel to the Webster Bank Arena to take on Fairfield. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m.
