Women's Basketball Falls To Fairfield, 52-40

JERSEY CITY- Kaydine Bent (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) tied her career-high 24 points in a 52-40 loss to Fairfield University on Saturday afternoon.

Bent also registered a team-high 10 rebounds in the contest. Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt/Modern Narmer Language School) finished with eight points and three rebounds.

The Stags opened up the game with a 3-pointer from Kristin Schatzlein. Saint Peter's answered with a basket from Neechelle Ingram (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East). Following a Fairfield foul, Bent knocked down a pair free throws to give the Peacocks a 4-3 lead.

Following a Fairfield miss, Bent made a layup to put Saint Peter's up three. The Stags responded with back-to-back baskets to take an 8-6 lead. The Peacocks countered with a bank shot from Teresa Corchado (Willingboro, N.J./Camden Catholic) to knot the game at eight.

Both teams exchanged baskets to keep the game tied at 12. Mostafa drilled one of her two 3-pointers on the afternoon to give the Peacocks a 15-12 advantage. Following a Fairfield foul, Bent made one free throw to extend the team's lead. Fairfield answered with a layup from Brittany Obi-Tabot cut the deficit to one possession. Saint Peter's countered with another field goal from Bent to maintain its lead. Following a Fairfield timeout, the Stags scored six straight points to take a 20-18 lead. A jumper from Bent tied the game back up at 20.

The Stags ended the first half on a 7-0 run, capped off by a jumper from Obo-Tabot with four seconds left to take a 27-20 advantage into the locker room. 

In the second half, the first few minutes were scoreless until a jumper from Katie Cizynski extended the Stags' lead. Saint Peter's answered with a layup Mostafa off a pass from Bent to cut the deficit. The Stags responded with a field goal from Kristine Miller to give Fairfield a 31-22 lead. The Peacocks countered with another 3-pointer from Mostafa. Next Fairfield possession, Obi-Tabot makes a layup to hold a 33-25 advantage. Following a field goal from Bent, the Stags made consecutive baskets to take a 37-27. Saint Peter's answered with a pair of free throws of Bent to cut the deficit to single digits.

Felicia DaCruz knocked down back-to-back baskets to give Fairfield a 42-29. The Peacocks responded with a basket from Kylie Garrett. The Stags countered with three straight points to extend its lead. Following a Fairfield foul, Bent knocked down two from the line to trim the deficit to single digits. The Stags responded with a basket from Obi-Tabot to take a 47-33 lead.

Both teams exchanged free throws before Cizynski hit a field goal to give the Stags a 51-36 lead. The Peacocks answered with a jumper from Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) to cut the lead. Following a made free throw from Fairfield, Kaycee DeVoogd (Edison, N.J./New Providence) knocked down a pair from the line to the end the game with a 50-42 victory for Fairfield.  

Fairfield finished with two players in double-figures, including Obi-Tabot who finished with a team-high 14 points.

With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 3-18 overall and 2-10 in conference play. Fairfield improves to 13-8 overall and 8-4 in conference play.

Saint Peter's returns to action Feb. 6 when they hit the road to take on Manhattan. Tip-off begins at 7 p.m.
