Niagara Downs Saint Peter's Women's Volleyball

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Niagara defeated Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's volleyball contest on Saturday. 

Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Trujillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) paced the Peacocks with 16 kills, while Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) finished 15 kills. Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) recorded a game-high 46 assists in the losing effort.

Nicole Matheis paced the Purple Eagles with a team-high 14 kills and 16 digs. Alexis Gray tallied a team-high 40 assists in the win. 

Niagara (11-13, 7-6 MAAC) defeated Saint Peter's (6-17, 3-11 MAAC) in four sets to sweep the season series.

Saint Peter's opened up an 11-5 lead in the opening set. Niagara hung around throughout the set and pulled within one of tying the game. The Peacocks did not relinquish its lead, taking the opening game 25-18. 

Trailing 20-16 in the second half, the Purple Eagles used four unanswered points to knot the game. Niagara outscored the Peacocks 5-3 to win 25-23 and even the series. 

Tied at 11 in the third set, Saint Peter's scored four straight points to take the lead. Niagara answered with six straight scores to regain the lead en route to a 25-19 set victory.

In the fourth set, Saint Peter's opened up a 12-10 advantage. The Purple Eagles mounted a comeback, ending the set on a 15-8 run to win the decisive set, 25-20.

Saint Peter's returns to action tomorrow when the team is set to host Canisius. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
