Canisius Downs Men's Soccer, 2-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canisius defeated Saint Peter's 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's soccer action on Saturday.

David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) made two saves for the Peacocks (4-13, 2-7 MAAC) while Dor Uzan (Arugot, Israel/UWGB) had a team-high three shots on the night.

Asani Samuels paced the Golden Griffins (9-6-2, 4-4-1 MAAC) with a goal and an assist while Derek Maier also found the twine and Andrew Coughlin turned away four shots in the winning effort.

Canisius scored a tally in each half to end a four-game losing streak against Saint Peter's.

The Golden Griffins broke a scoreless standstill when Samuels scored unassisted at the 33:47 mark for a 1-0 edge. Maier then sealed the victory with a tally off helpers from Samuels and Lucian Preis at the 62:04 mark.

The Peacocks had several chances to score, but could not convert. Marcel Madddee' (Berlin, Germany/Gymnasium Villa Elizabeth) had a header stopped by Coughlin in the 26th minute and Luke Fairlamb (Northampton, England/Unity College) had a scoring chance thwarted in the 34th minute. Coughlin recorded a stop on a Uzan shot in the 59th minute before Carlos Cartegna (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) gave Saint Peter's its final scoring chance that was also turned away by Coughlin in the 88th minute.

The Peacocks conclude the season at home against Monmouth on Wednesday. Match time is 2 p.m. Prior to the match, Saint Peter's will honor seniors Giddings, Maddee' and Omar Crowl (Brooklyn, N.Y./Thomas Jefferson).
