Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team wrapped up non-conference play with a four-set victory over NJIT on Wednesday night.
After losing to NJIT (6-14) earlier in the season, the Peacocks (4-10) evened the score in front of a packed house for the team's fourth victory of the season.
The Highlanders opened up the contest with a 25-19 first set win. In the second set, NJIT opened up an 8-3 advantage over Saint Peter's. The Peacocks fought back, going on a 12-2 run to take a 15-10 lead. Saint Peter's fed off the momentum swing to take the second set, 25-17.
Tied at 14 in the third set, the Peacocks used a 6-0 run to take a 20-14 edge. Saint Peter's did relinquish the lead, taking the game 25-20 and taking a 2-1 set lead.
Saint Peter's kept its foot on the gas in the fourth set, opening up with an 8-0 run. Following a NJIT timeout, the Peacocks continued its attack, scoring points and forcing the Highlanders into turnovers. Saint Peter's won the decisive fourth set, 25-16.
With the win, Saint Peter's snaps a six-game losing streak against the Highlanders that dates back to 2007.
The Peacocks return to action on Oct. 11, when the team resumes MAAC play with contests against Quinnipiac and Fairfield (Oct. 12). Opening serve is slated for 12 p.m.
