Manhattan Downs Women's Volleyball 3-1

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Manhattan defeated Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball contest on Sunday.

Amanda Colombo (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) paced the Peacocks with a team-high 12 kills while Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Trujillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) tallied 11 kills. Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finished with a game-high 36 kills while Kayla Howell (Monrovia, Calif./Monrovia) finished with 18 digs in the losing effort.

Malia McGuinness recorded a game-high 18 kills while Claire Van Dyk finished with 12 kills. Teodora Peric recorded 25 digs in the victory.

Manhattan (9-8, 3-3 MAAC) defeated Saint Peter's (3-10, 1-4 MAAC) in four sets for its third conference victory of the season.

In the opening set, the Jaspers jumped out to an early lead en route to a 25-11 set victory.

Knotted at 15 in the second set, Saint Peter's used a 4-1 run to take a 19-16 edge. The Peacocks did not relinquish their lead, holding on for the 25-22 game victory and tying the contest at one set each.

Third set, Manhattan opened up a 15-6 advantage. Saint Peter's cut the deficit with six straight scores to get within three points. The Jaspers held on for the 25-19 set victory.

Down 23-19 in the fourth, the Peacocks scored four unanswered points to tie the contest at 23. A kill from McGuiness and an attack error by Saint Peter's gave Manhattan the 25-23 set victory and decisive fourth set. 

Saint Peter's returns to action on Oct. 8, when the team plays host to NJIT. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
