RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Reece Lambert (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart) notched his first collegiate goal to lift Saint Peter's past Manhattan 1-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's soccer action on Wednesday night.

Lambert, who registered his first career point on an assist in a 4-0 win against George Washington on Sept. 27, knocked in his first career goal from six-yards out after a free kick was not cleared by the Jaspers in the 43rd minute.

David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) made three saves for the Peacocks (4-12-0, 2-6-0 MAAC) to earn his second shutout of the season.

Alex Coates McDowall turned away seven shots for Manhattan (1-11-2, 0-7-1 MAAC) in the losing effort.

Saint Peter's took the lead late in the first half thanks to Lambert's first collegiate score while Giddings and the defense kept the Jaspers off the scoreboard to help the Peacocks earn its eighth win in the last nine meetings against Manhattan.

Lambert knocked in a shot from six-yards out at the 42:23 mark to give Saint Peter's the lead it would not relinquish.

The Jaspers had six shots on goal on the night, but could not convert. Eugene Heerschap and Luke Greaves had shots stopped by Giddings in the 12th minute while the Peacocks' netminder also turned away a Greaves shot in the 63rd minute.

The Saint Peter's defense blocked shots by Dan Laguna Kennedy in the 51st and 66th minutes and Abraham Bartoah gave the Jaspers its final scoring chance in the 84th minute that was also blocked by the Peacocks defense.

Despite the win, Saint Peter's was eliminated from postseason contention after Monmouth downed Rider 1-0 on Wednesday night.
