Quinnipiac Downs Saint Peter's Men's Soccer, 3-0

Box Score

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Quinnipiac defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's soccer action on Saturday.

David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) made two saves (3-12-0, 1-6-0 MAAC) while Marcel Maddee' (Berlin, Germany/Gymnasium Villa Elizabeth) had a team-high three shots in the loss.

Raphael Carvalho, Machel Baker and John-John Diaz each found the twine for the Bobcats (7-4-4, 4-0-3 MAAC) and Borja Angoitia made six saves to earn his sixth shutout of the year in the winning effort.

Quinnipiac scored once in the first half and twice in the second half to earn the victory in the second-ever meeting between the two teams in league play since the Bobcats joined the MAAC last season.

Carvalho scored in the middle of the box off a pass from James Doig at the 9:04 mark for the only score in the first half by either team to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 edge at the break.

In the second half, Baker rocketed a shot to the high netting from 35-yards out at the 61:35 mark before Ryan Sceiderman passed the ball ahead to Diaz who carried the ball down the field and beat the goalkeeper for his first collegiate tally at the 71:18 to cap a 3-0 victory for the defending league tournament champions.

Saint Peter's had a couple of chances to score, but could not convert. Maddee' registered the best opportunity in the first half when he drilled a shot from right to left, but Angoitia made a diving stop in the final minute of the stanza.

In the second half, the Peacocks best chance came off the foot of Reece Lambert (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart) with a scrum in the middle of the box his shot was somehow turned away by an out of position Angoitia in the 48th minute.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Wednesday at Manhattan. Match time is 7 p.m.
