Saint Peter's Women's Volleyball Falls To Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Iona defeated Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball contest on Wednesday.

Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finished with a game-high 21 assists. Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Trujillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) recorded a team-high 14 digs while Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) paced the Peacocks with nine kills in the loss.

Catrina Warren tallied a game-high 11 kills while Taylor Cembalisty finished with eight kills and 11 digs in the wining effort.

Iona (5-15, 2-7 MAAC) defeated Saint Peter's (5-12, 2-6 MAAC) in straight sets to snap a six-match losing streak and split the season-series against the Peacocks.

The Gaels won the opening set 25-13, totaling 12 kills and hitting .321 on 28 attempts. After Saint Peter's closed an early deficit to only trail 9-8, Iona used four straight scores to extend a lead they did not relinquish. 

In the second set, Saint Peter's held a 15-13 edge. Iona used a 7-1 run to take a 20-16 lead. The Peacocks countered with a 7-3 spurt to knot the contest at 23. The Gaels held on for the 25-23 set win, following back-to-back kills.

Third game, Iona opened up an 18-5 lead en route to a 25-14 set victory and sweep of the Peacocks.

The squad returns to action on Oct. 18, when the team returns to New York for weekend contests against Siena and Marist (Oct. 19).
