Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Iona defeated Saint Peter's 7-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Kaitlyn Lima (Kearny, N.J./Kearny [New Jersey City]) scored the goal for the Peacocks (1-14-0, 1-5-0 MAAC) off an assist from Carlee Gonzalez (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) in the loss.
Julia Campagna scored three times for the Gaels (6-8-2, 2-3-2 MAAC) while Safi Ayinde posted two goals and one assist and Erika Flowers notched a tally and a helper in the winning effort.
In a game that saw three goals in the first eight minutes of the game, Iona took the advantage and never looked back en route to the victory.
Flowers helped get the scoring started when she passed the ball up ahead to Campagna, who found the back of the net 1:45 into the contest.
Saint Peter's tied the game at 1 a few minutes later when Lima took a feed from Gonzalez at 5:16 for her first goal of the season.
Ayinde then scored the next two goals for the Gaels to them the lead for good after finding the back of the net off a feed from Charlotte Stuart at the 7:46 mark and off pass from Natalie Murphy at 25:24 for a 3-1 advantage.
The Peacocks then had a goal negated by an offsides call after Iona's third goal.
Campagna notched her second goal of the game at 37:06 and then Flowers capped a five-goal first half with a tally at 38:26 off a feed from Ayinde for a 5-1 lead at the break.
Campagna capped her hat trick with an unassisted tally at 72:32 and then Christine Rebus sealed the win with a goal off a Stuart assist at 87:56.
Lauren Solene (Fall City, Wash./Mount Si) made five saves in 77 minutes of action and Molly O'Halloran (Colonia, N.J./Union Catholic Regional) turned away four shots off the bench for Saint Peter's. Morgan McBrier turned away one shot for the Gaels.
The Peacocks return to action on Saturday at Marist. Match time is 7 p.m.
