Two Second Half Niagara Goals Upend Saint Peter's Men's Soccer, 2-1

Box Score

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Niagara posted two goals in the second half to rally for a 2-1 win against Saint Peter's in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's soccer action on Saturday.

Louis Mobbs (Hull, England/Sydney Smith) registered a tally for the Peacocks (2-9-0, 0-3-0 MAAC) off an assist from Luke Fairlamb (Northampton, England/Unity College) while David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) made save in the loss.

Julian Ekeze tallied a goal and an assist for the Purple Eagles (5-6-1, 1-2-1 MAAC) while Jacob Ohlin also found the twine and Steve Casey turned away one shot in the winning effort.

Niagara scored twice in the second half and held on to earn the come-from-behind victory against Saint Peter's after the two teams battled to a 2-all standstill last year at Niagara.

Fairlamb had a free kick from 40-yards out and found Mobbs for his second score of the season at the 32-minute mark. Mobbs now has five goals in his career while Fairlamb added to his team-high point total by registering his 11th point of the year.

The Peacocks' lead held up until the second half when Ekeze had an open-net opportunity and punched a shot in the left netting at the 67:42 mark to even the score at 1.

Ekeze then helped the Purple Eagles take the lead they would not relinquish when he set up Ohlin with the decisive score at 82:03 for a 2-1 victory.

After Niagara tied the game, Saint Peter's had three scoring chances but could not convert. Marcel Maddee' (Berlin Germany/Villa Maria Gymnasium) had a shot blocked by the Purple Eagles defense inside the box at the 72:59 mark before Fairlamb had a free kick sail high at the 73:32 mark.  Maddee' had the Peacocks final scoring chance, but his shot was saved by Casey at the 80:08 mark.

Niagara scored in the 83rd minute and Saint Peter's did not register a shot in the final seven minutes and 57 seconds.

The Peacocks return to action when they travel to Iona on Wednesday. Match time is 3 p.m.
