opening stretch… The Saint Peter's track and field team hits the road to compete in the Metropolitan Championships.
last time out… The squad last competed in the NYU Challenge on Jan. 24. Jamel Presley notched a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.13 seconds. Raquel Henderson placed in the top-10 of the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.54. Shona Potrzuski also notched a top-10 finish in the 500-meter dash, recording a run of 1:17.87.Sunita Kumar placed sixth in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.34 seconds. Kumar also finished second in the women's triple jump with a jump of 11.19-meters. Dexter Valley placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.33 seconds. Lance Weaver finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.22. Ieshawn Johnson finished third in the weight throw with a distance of 17.10-meters. Bentley Whitfield rounded off the top-five finishes for the Peacocks with his toss of 16.03-meters.
IC4A/ECAC qualifiers… Several members of the track and field team have posted qualifying performances for the IC4A and ECAC championships in Boston. Isaiah Harris qualified in the High Jump and Triple Jump. Wellington Brown qualified in the Long Jump. Ieshawn Johnson qualified in the Weight Throw. Jamel Presley qualified in the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash. Steffany Laureano qualified in the 400m. CONGRATS!
breaking indoor marks… Isaiah Harris and Ieshawn Johnson have set new Saint Peter's indoor records this season. Harris set a new mark in the high jump with his leap of 2.15-meters. Johnson set a new mark in the weight throw with his toss of 18.48-meters. He is the first Peacock ever to surpass the 60' mark.
maac honors for harris… Isaiah Harris earned MAAC Indoor Track and Field Male Performer Of The Week honors for her performance in the Great Dane Classic. Harris notched a first place finish in the triple jump with a height of 15.15-meters. He also set a Saint Peter's indoor track and field record in the high jump with a jump of 2.15-meters. His strong performance earned him IC4A qualifying marks for both events.
maac honors for laureano… Steffany Laureano earned MAAC Indoor Track and Field Female Performer Of The Week honors for her performance in the Brother Jasper Invitational. Laureano becomes the first track and field athlete to earn a MAAC award this season and the first female track and field athlete to receive a MAAC award since teammate Shona Potruzski (Pitman, N.J./Pitman High School) last season.
next on deck… Saint Peter's returns to action Feb. 8, when the team competes in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
championship pride… The women's team hopes to continue its success in 2013-14. The indoor women's team has won the past three MAAC Championships while the outdoor team has won the MAAC championships two of the last three seasons.
ncaa honors for harris… Isaiah Harris concluded his 2012-13 campaign earning a trip to the NCAA Championships East Preliminary round where he competed in the Triple Jump and the High Jump.
welcome back… The men and women's teams return a number of top performers back in 2013-14. Those members include Isaiah Harris, Shona Potrzuski, Jamel Presley, Gina Nocerino, Lance Weaver, Mohamed Merdan, Latasha Green, Essence Rogers, Steffany Laureano, Ieshawn Johnson and many others.
about the coach… Head coach Mike Massone is entering his sixth season as the men and women's track and field head coach.
