Box Score VESTAL, N.Y. – Marcel Maddee' (Berlin, Germany/Gymnasium Villa Elisabeth) tied the game in the 78th minute to help Saint Peter's end in a 1-all double-overtime result against Binghamton in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday.
Maddee' scored his second goal of the season to even the match off a Luke Fairlamb (Northampton, England/Unity College) assist to notch his second tally of the year. Maddee' leads the team with two goals and three assists for seven points.
David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) made five saves for the Peacocks (1-4-2) on the night.
Steven Celeste recorded his second goal of the season for the Bearcats (2-4-2) while Marts Reid-Warden and Ben Nicholson posted assists on the play. Stefan Frantellizzi turned away five shots in the match.
After a scoreless first half, each team found the twine in the second half and the two teams ended in a standstill marking the third overtime game for Saint Peter's in 2013.
Two minutes and 50 seconds into the second half, Celeste found the back of the net off feeders from Reid-Warden and Nicholson to give Binghamton the 1-0 edge.
Nearly 20 minutes later, the Peacocks answered to even the game at 1 when Maddee' took a pass from Fairlamb at the 77:35.
With the game tied, Saint Peter's had a slew of chances to take the lead. Fairlamb and Omar Crowl (Brooklyn, N.Y./Thomas Jefferson) both missed high in the 87th and 89th minutes, respectively. Fairlamb then had the final chance in regulation, but his shot was thwarted by Frantellizzi with 45 ticks on the clock.
The Peacocks had the only three shots in the first overtime period. Maddee' missed wide in the 97th minute and then had scoring chances turned away by Frantellizzi in the 98th and in the final seconds of the stanza.
The Bearcats had four shots in the second extra session and kept Giddings on his toes. After Nicholson missed wide in the 103rd minute, Gidding had to make saves on shots by Reid-Warden (106th minute), Logan Roberts (106th minute) and Robbie Hughes (109th minute) to preserve the tie.
Saint Peter's returns to action at home when the squad concludes its non-conference slate against Bryant on Friday. Game time is 4 p.m.
