Volleyball Falls In Conference Opener To Canisius On Saturday

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's volleyball team was defeated in its conference opener Saturday afternoon against Canisius.

Senior Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) finished with a team-high nine kills. Junior Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) finished with eight kills in the contest.
In the first set, both teams traded points back and forth to tie the set at 12. With the score tied, the Golden Griffens went on an 8-4 run to take a 20-16 lead in the set. The Peacocks would respond, going on a 6-2 run to tie the set at 22. Canisius would score three straight points to win the set, 25-22. 

Second set, Saint Peter's jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the set. Canisius would respond with four straight points of their own to tie the set. With the scored tied, both teams continued to exchange points to tie the set at 19. Canisius would pull away, going on a 6-2 run to win the set, 25-21.

In the third set, both teams exchanged points to tie the set at 12. Neither team was able to build and sustain a lead throughout the set. With the score tied at 22, Canisius managed to pull away, scoring three consecutive points to win, 25-22.

Junior Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finished with a game-high 31 assists. Senior Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) finished with 19 digs. Senior Stephanie Mills registered a block in the contest.   

With the loss, the Peacocks drop to 2-11 on the year and 0-1 in MAAC play. 

Saint Peter's returns to action tomorrow, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m, to take on Niagara in their conference matchup.
