Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Quinnipiac defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer opener for both teams on Saturday.
Molly O'Halloran (Colonia, N.J./Union Catholic Regional) made four saves for the Peacocks (2-5-0, 0-1-0 MAAC) in the loss.
Jessica Fontaine paced the Bobcats (2-5-0, 0-1-0 MAAC) registered a goal and two assists for the Bobcats while Beck Kiting and Kelly Caruso also found the back of the net. Natalia Grodzki made two saves while Tori Graessle turned away one shot in the winning effort.
Quinnipiac scored in the first 10 minutes and then found the twine twice in the second half to earn the victory in its first MAAC game in program history. The Bobcats joined the league in 2013 after playing in the Northeast Conference.
Jess Lavoie served the ball ahead and then Fontaine had a 1-on-1 opportunity against the goalkeeper and went to the left post to find the twine at the 7:33 mark for a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Fontaine fed Kiting at the 47:23 mark and then sealed the victory when she had a helper to Caruso at the 50:16 mark to cap the 3-0 victory.
Saint Peter's had a couple of scoring chances in the game, but could not convert.
Greta Vogel (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills [Scottsdale Community College]) had a breakaway and a 1-on-1 chance against Grodzki, but missed wide in the fourth minute. Vogel then had another great chance in the 81st minute when she had a shot booted a shot that was knocked away by the Quinnipiac defense.
The Peacocks return to action against Fairfield on Wednesday at Jaroschak Field. Match time is 4 p.m.
