Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Freshmen Nick Sifrin (Schlangen, Germany/Gymnasium Paderborn) and Louis Mobbs (Hull, England/Sydney Smith) both notched their first collegiate goals to lift Saint Peter's past George Washington 2-1 in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday.
Sifrin broke a scoreless standstill in the first minute after the start of the second half and then Mobbs helped seal the Peacocks' (1-3-1) first win of the year in the 78th minute.
Marcel Maddee' (Berlin, Germany/Gymnasium Villa Elisabeth) registered an assist on both tallies while Luke Fairlamb (Northampton, England/Unity College) added a helper on Sifrin's goal. David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) made two saves in his first start of the season.
Tyler Randall notched the marker for the Colonials (3-3-0) while Juan Pierre van der Merwe turned away six shots in the loss.
After a scoreless half, Saint Peter's jumped out to the lead early in the second half and held on to earn the victory in the first meeting between the two programs since 1992.
Maddee' and Fairlamb passed the ball ahead to Sifrin, who found the back of the netting at the 45:35 mark of the contest. Maddee' then served in a nice ball on a corner kick and Mobbs headed the ball into the twine at the 78:21 mark to give the Peacocks a 2-0 lead.
Ranalli registered a marker off a Valencia assist in the 86th minute, but Saint Peter's came away with its first win of the year.
The Peacocks return to action on Friday at home against Delaware. Match time is 4 p.m.
