Reinhart's Strong Performance Pushes Saint Peter's Past St. Francis Brooklyn In Home Opener On Tuesday

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women volleyball team won its home opening match Tuesday evening against St. Francis Brooklyn.

Senior Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) had a huge performance tonight, tallying a season-high 23 kills. Sophomore Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) finished with 17 kills while junior Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) registered 12 kills.

In the first set, both teams traded points to tie the set at 20. The Terriers however, would hold on to win the first set, 25-22.

Second set, back and forth scoring between the two schools brought the set to a 15-15 tie. With the score tied, the Peacocks would take control, scoring six straight points to take a 21-15 lead. Saint Peter's would not look back, taking the set 25-21.

In the third set, the Peacocks played their best volleyball of the season thus far. They began the set on a 7-0 run to take an early lead. The Terriers would respond with a 7-3 run to being the deficit within three points. Saint Peter's would put their foot on the gas, going on a 15-4 run to win the set, 25-11. Reinhart and Behrens both finished the set with four kills each.

Fourth set, the Peacocks would pick up where they left off, starting the set with a 7-3 lead. St. Francis Brooklyn would battle back, going on an 8-4 run to tie the set at 11. Tied at 11, the Terriers would try to pull away, going on a 5-1 run to take a 16-12 lead. Saint Peter's would not lie down, responding with a 6-3 run to tie the set at 19. With the score tied, both teams would exchange points and take each other to the brink of losing the set. With the score tied at 24, a kill by Behrens would give the Peacocks a one-point lead. Next play, Arrufat-Rondon tallied a kill, that would seal the set, and match wins.

Saint Peter's was much more aggressive on the attack, finishing with 59 kills compared to St. Francis Brooklyn would finished with 38 total kills.

Junior Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) registered a season-high 45 assists in the winning contest. Senior Jenny Pliska (Portland, Ore./La Salle College Prep) finished with a game-high 17 assists.

Freshman Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) continues to contribute for the Peacocks, registering three kills and three blocks.

With the win, Saint Peter's improves to 2-10 on the season. This is also the first win at the Yanitelli Center for the Peacocks since 2010.

Saint Peter's returns to action Sept. 21, when they welcome Canisius to the Yanitelli Center to open conference play.
