Box Score 2 BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canisius swept Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) softball doubleheader on Sunday. The Golden Griffins took the opener 6-1 and then won the nightcap 5-2.
Nicole Olmedo (Chino,Calif./Chino) paced the Peacocks (6-35, 1-7 MAAC) with three hits. Taylor Corretjer (Theills, N.Y./North Rockland) added two hits and a run scored while Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) posted a hit and two runs scored on the afternoon.
Meghan Cuda fueled Canisius with four hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Robin Kennery registered three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs while Stephanie Pfentner added two hits and three RBIs and Tori Nappo notched three hits and two runs scored in the two games.
In the opener, Saint Peter's took the early lead before the Golden Griffins posted the final six runs to earn the victory.
Harrison reached on a two-base error with one out in the first and touched home on Sierra Parker's (Chino Hills, Calif./Caldwell College) RBI single down the right field line to give the Peacocks the early 1-0 edge.
Saint Peter's maintained the edge until the third when Canisius scored three times to take a 3-1 advantage. Kennery tied the game at 1 on an RBI fielder's choice before Bethany DeMarco posted run-scoring single and Pfentner followed with an RBI double.
The Golden Griffins then sealed the victory with three runs in the sixth thanks to a two-run double by DeMarco and the team added a run on an error for a 6-1 lead.
Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) took the loss for the Peacocks.
In the nightcap, Canisius jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back to complete the two-game sweep with a 5-2 victory.
After Kennery got the scoring started with an RBI double in the third, Pfentner brought two more runs home in the stanza with a two-run single for a 3-0 edge.
Saint Peter's answered with a run in the fourth after Harrison singled and came around to score to trim the margin to 3-1.
The Peacocks scratched away at the margin again in the sixth with a run to make it a one-run game. Corretjer started the inning with a single to left center and Stephanie Gilronan (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at first and second. After Harrison reached on an error to load the bases, Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) brought home Corretjer on an RBI groundout. Holding a 3-2 edge with the bases loaded and one out, the Golden Griffins got out of the jam with a fly out and a groundout.
Cuda then sealed the win for Canisius with a two-run homer in the sixth for a 5-2 advantage.
Tori Feorenzo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) took the loss for Saint Peter's.
The Peacocks return to action on Monday at Niagara. First pitch is 11 a.m. The twinbill was originally schedule for Saturday, but was postponed due to low temperatures and high winds.
