Track and Field Braves the Winter Weather And Competes At Manhattan

While numerous meets throughout the East were cancelled due to the blizzard, the Saint Peter's University track & field teams continued to prepare for the upcoming MAAC Championships on February 15.

"Dan Mecca (Manhattan Head Coach) and his staff were gracious enough to put together an excellent meet on extremely short notice, and they deserve  our thanks", commented Head Coach Mike Massone.

"It gave us an opportunity to see a few new options that we may need next week."

One of those options was regarding Shona Potrzuski, who won the 500m with an ECAC qualifying time of 1:15.45.

"We need to determine whether Shona will go in the 400 or 800, and her excellent race tonight, certainly gives me reason to consider each option", remarked Massone.

Ieshawn Johnson, took second in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 17.77 meters. His outstanding series included three throws over 17 meters. His 17.77 is a new Saint Peters standard.

Jamelia Johnson had a solid night in the horizontal jumps, with marks of 5.52 in the Long Jump and a personal best of 11.41 in the Triple Jump.

The hurdlers ran impressive times as well. Morgan Mclaughlin and Renee Brzyski ran 8.83 and 8.85, respectively, while Jamel Presley posted a mark of 8.20.  Wellington Brown leaped 6.71 meters for the win in the men's Long Jump.

"It appears that on both sides, the winner will be decided  by who competes best on the 15th. The women 's meet projects to be incredibly close, and the men's race should be equally exciting", added Massone.

"Let's hope it comes down to the 4x400- that would make for a great meet."
