The Saint Peter's University indoor women's track and field team clinched their third straight MAAC Championship title at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center last night.
The Peacocks secured their third consecutive title by finishing with a team score of 185.5. Rider University came in second with 164.5 and Manhattan College followed in third place with a score of 122.5. Iona College finished with 59 points, followed by Loyola University Maryland (50.5) and Marist College (32).
The Saint Peter's men's squad also posted a superb finish on the night; coming in 3rd with a score of 104 and just missing a 2nd place finish by 8 points. Manhattan won the meet with a team score of 159. Rider University finished second with 112 points. Iona (90) and Marist (29) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sophomore Jamelia Johnson was voted the Most Outstanding Performer in field events after capturing first place finishes in both the Long Jump (5.81m) and Triple Jump (11.44m).
Head Coach Mike Massone was named the women's MAAC Coach of the Year for the third year in the row as well.
Renee Brzyski captured a first place finish in the 60m Hurdles, with a time of 8.62, while teammate Morgan McLaughlin finished right behind in second place (8.65).
The women's 4x400 relay team of Stefanny Laureano, Latasha Green, Gina Nocerino andMonika Miazga took home first; besting Rider with a time of 3:54.26.
Cristina Vilsaint came first in the Weight Throw with a toss of 18.11m.
The women's squad also secured various second place finishes on the night; Laureano took silver in the 400m Dash (57.27), Shona Potrzsuki came 2nd in the 800m Run (2:14.17) and Vilsaint added a silver medal in the Shot Put (12.16m).
Other notable performances were put in by Johnson and Green who finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 60m Dash. Additionally, the trio of Green, Johnson and McLaughlin came fourth-fifth-six, repsectively, in the 200m Dash. Miazga would come in 3rd in the 400m Dash (57.74), while Andrijana Andric took 3rd in the Long Jump (5.49m). Sophomore Jennifer Cajou would come 3rd in the Triple Jump (11.29m), while Sunita Kumar finished 4th (11.22m).
The men were led by Isaiah Harris, who took first in both the High Jump (2.04m) and Triple Jump (14.89m).
Wellington Brown was also a MAAC Champion in the Long Jump, recording a distance of 7.28m.
Jamel Preseley captured two 2nd place finishes in the 60m Dash (6.97) and the 60m Hurdles (7.96), while Kevin Persson and Steve Ferville finished two-three in the 400m Dash.
DaShawn Putman (High Jump- 1.99m) and Kene Aneke (Shot Put- 15.26m), each finished 3rd in their respective events.
Lastly, the 4x400m Relay team of Kevin Persson, Tevin Cunningham, Steve Ferville and Jarrek Babb finished off the night with an exciting 2nd place finish; just missing the gold with a time of 3:17.33.
The Peacocks open up the 2013 Outdoor Season on March 16th at the Ram Invite in Richmond, VA.
