BALTIMORE, Md. – Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati/Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola) won three events while Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) won two events to pace the Saint Peter's men's and women's swimming and diving team at the Loyola Greyhounds Invitational on Saturday.
Samardzic won the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.51, the 100 back with a time of 57.96 and the 200 back with a time of 2:02.45 to post the Peacocks three victories for the women. Gomez won the 400 IM with a time of 4:04.04 and the 200 fly with a time of 1:51.98 for the only two first-place finishes on the men's side.
Along with Samardzic's nice day in the pool, Anastasiia Mushtei (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine/Finans Deukomi) finished second in the 1650 free (17:32.50) and sixth in the 400 IM (4:43.05).
Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Crest) placed fourth in the 100 free (52.91) while Alexandra Sison (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy) finished sixth in both the 100 breast (1:07.88) and the 200 breast (2:27.27).
Christina Petrelis (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) recorded eighth-place standings in the 400 IM (4:46.43) and the 1650 free (18:06.54) and Cristina DeCisneros (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) placed eighth in the 100 fly (1:00.71) and the 200 fly (2:14.67).
The relay team of Samardzic, Sison, DeCisneros and Wuko finished third in the 200-medley relay (1:48.88).
Along with Gomez's two wins, Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) placed second in the 1650 free (16:25.05) and sixth in the 200 fly (1:59.02) while Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) finished third in the 100 fly (52.40).
Alejandro Rubin (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio) recorded a seventh-place standing in the 100 fly (53.54) and eighth in the 200 fly (1:59.67). Trey McGraw (Berkley, W. Va./Patrick Henry) ended in seventh in the 200 free (1:47.86) and Omar Hassan (Bayonne, N.J./High-Tech) was ninth in the 100 back (56.62).
The relay team of Gomez, Dunne, Rubin and Manuel Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/The American School Foundation) placed fifth in the 200-medley relay (1:38.39) while the quartet also teamed up to place fifth in the 400-free relay (3:19.59).
For the women, Iona downed Saint Peter's 180-166 while Loyola took a 267-97 decision and Marist downed the Peacocks 260-90. On the men's side, Iona earned a 216-104 win, Loyola took the two-day dual meet 257-94 and Marist won 285-70.
The Peacocks return to action on Friday at Manhattan while Montclair State will also compete in the final event of 2013.
