JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Dayana Arrufat-Rondon's 12 kills on Saturday would not be enough as the Saint Peter's women's volleyball team was defeated by Fairfield on Saturday.
Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) tallied eight kills in the contest. Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) amassed a team-best 24 assists and Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) registered 12 digs.
In the first set, both teams exchanged points to tie the set at 10. With the set tied, Fairfield would go on an 11-4 run to take a 21-14 advantage. Saint Peter's would respond, scoring four consecutive points to cut the deficit to four. The Stags would hold on, taking the first set 25-20.
Second set, the Peacocks started fast, taking an early 10-5 lead. Saint Peter's would maintain control, holding on to a 17-10 advantage. Fairfield would storm back, going on a 13-3 run to take a 23-20 lead. Fairfield went on to take the second set, 26-24.
In the third set, the Stags jumped out to an early 11-4 lead. Fairfield would not look back, taking the third set 25-11.
Marilyn Peizer led the way with 11 kills for the Stags. Rachel Romansky tallied a game-high 30 assists and Carsen Mata registered 13 digs.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 4-24 overall and 2-14 in conference play.
Saint Peter's returns to action Sunday, when they welcome Quinnipiac University to the Yanitelli Center for its final home game of the season.
