Box Score HAMPTON, Va. – The Saint Peter's women's basketball team fell in its home-opener on Sunday to Hampton University.
Marcia Senatus (Roselle, N.J. / Trenton Catholic) finished with a team-high nine points on the afternoon. Kaydine Bent (Bronx, N.Y. / Harry S. Truman) and Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt/Modern Narmer Language School) registered eight points each in the loss. Aziza May (South Euclid, Ohio / Charles F. Brush) tallied a team-best five rebounds.
In the first half, Hampton started fast, jumping out to a 21-3 advantage behind the scoring of Alyssa Bennett and Ryan Jordan.
Saint Peter's struggled from the field, shooting just 31-percent in the first half. Hampton was shooting 43-percent, allowing the Pirates to take a 38-17 lead into halftime. Bent and Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) scored six points each in the first half.
In the second half, Hampton became cold from the field, shooting just under 30-percent. Mostafa would have a nice second half, scoring all eight of her points. The Pirates built a strong enough lead in the first half that they were able to hold onto in the second half. Hampton would go on to win the game, 64-37.
Hampton was able to control the boards in the game, outrebounding Saint Peter's 49-28. Hampton took advantage of its 24 offensive rebounds, scoring 15 second-chance points. Alyssa Bennett led all scorers with 22 points. Malia Tate-Defreitas finished with 15 points in the contest.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 0-1 on the season.
The Peacocks return to action Nov. 16, when they welcome Brown University to the Yanitelli Center for its home-opening contest.
