JERSEY CITY, N.J. –The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team lost in straight sets on Wednesday in its non-conference match against NJIT.
Sophomore Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) paced the Peacocks with 10 kills. Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Truyillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) registered eight kills in the contest. Junior Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) tallied a team-best 25 assists while senior Laura Reinhart (Belvidere, N.J./Newton) finished with a team-high 12 digs.
In the first set, both teams traded points back and forth with Saint Peter's holding a slim 16-14 advantage. With the Highlands down two, they rallied back, going on a 6-0 run to take a 20-14 lead. NJIT would not look back, taking the first set 25-20.
Second set, Saint Peter's started off quick, taking an early 10-6 lead. The Peacocks would continue their attack, continuing to stay ahead, leading 17-11. NJIT would make a run, scoring six consecutive points to tie the set at 17. Both teams would trade points, but the Highlanders would ultimately escape with the 25-23 win.
In the third set, both teams would exchange points, tying the match at 16. With the set tied, NJIT would go on to score six straight points to take a 22-16 advantage. The Highlanders would not look back, taking the final set 25-18.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 3-17 overall. NJIT improves to 6-10 with the win tonight.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Oct. 12, when they welcome Siena to the Yanitelli Center for its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match.
